What is Adaptive Mentorship?
Adaptive mentorship is a safe, non-judgmental experience providing opportunities for clinical conversations tailored to Mentees’ evolving needs. Adaptive Mentorship includes three fundamental principles:

Adaptive to fit the needs of the participants (mentees)

Create safe and compassionate spaces for mentees and mentors that cultivate trust and enhance resiliency among participants

Ensure there is bi-directional value/learning for Mentors and Mentees
What is the role of a Mentor? -
Collaborates with the AMN-NL administration in developing and delivering creative evidence-based initiatives that focus on transferring experience and knowledge to enhance the learning experience of Mentees

Provides advice, motivates, and encourages professional development

Assists Mentees in developing their professional development goals

Develops trusting, confidential and mutually beneficial relationships

Assists in the development of small group meeting design, format and content aimed to facilitate growth and learning for Mentees

Participates in Mentor meetings to share ideas, strategies and lessons learned with fellow Mentors

Participates in annual Mentor training workshops
What is the role of a Mentee? -
Engages with their Mentor and in mentoring activities and responds to Mentor communications

Shows interest and openness to receiving feedback and guidance from their Mentor

Commits to self-development and assumes the responsibility for acquiring or improving skills and knowledge

Be an active participant in regional small group meetings and commit to attend a minimum of two meetings per year
-
Participates in network communication, evaluations, surveys, and activities including the National Adaptive Mentoring Forum as needed

Provides input and feedback to AMN-NL leadership team
-
Interacts collaboratively with AMN-NL community to ensure a rich and meaningful experience

Provides insight and input on strategies to gain momentum and support for AMN-NL
-
Promoting the merits of mentoring, along with informing and influencing the larger system in a climate of continuous quality improvement
What is the cost?
There is no cost to Mentees to join the AMN-NL. There may be a modest fee to attend conferences and courses.
How is the AMN-NL funded?
A funding is supported through an agreement from Health Canada’s Substance Use and Addictions Program provided to the Centre for Effective Practice, Pain BC and the Atlantic Mentorship Network Pain & Addiction.
Are the mentorship network activities accredited?
CME credits will be awarded for physician Mentors and Mentees who engage in AMN-NL activities.
